What We Heard: 2027 Budget Public Participation Report

Earlier this summer, the Town of Valleyview invited residents and community members to share their priorities, concerns and ideas for the 2027 Budget.

Feedback was collected through three public participation opportunities: the Community Survey, the Budget Open House and the Online Brainstorm Board. The results have now been compiled into the 2027 Budget Public Participation Report and were provided to Town Council in August.

Participation at a Glance

  • 92 online survey submissions were received, with 83 unique responses included in the analysis.
  • 10 posts were submitted through the Online Brainstorm Board.
  • Four written feedback ballots were received at the Budget Open House.

What We Heard

The survey showed that core municipal services remain especially important to participants:

  • Street and alley maintenance and water and wastewater were each rated Critical or Important by 93% of respondents.
  • Solid waste management followed closely, with 91% rating it Critical or Important.
  • Street and alley maintenance showed the clearest combination of high importance and lower satisfaction, making it the strongest overall area for attention.
  • Unsightly property control also received comparatively lower satisfaction ratings, aligning with written suggestions about beautification and community appearance.
  • Solid waste management, the Community Hall, library services and ice rinks received comparatively strong satisfaction results.

Written feedback expanded on the survey findings. Recurring ideas included improving streets and sidewalks, expanding walking and biking opportunities, enhancing community appearance, supporting recreation, addressing long-term infrastructure needs and considering affordability, safety and mobility concerns.

What Happens Next?

Town Council will use this information as one of the resources informing its 2027 Budget deliberations this September. The report provides both an overview of the major community-wide patterns and a record of the individual written suggestions received.

Public feedback is considered alongside infrastructure needs, service requirements, financial capacity and other information available to Council during the budget process.
