Mayor and Council would like to welcome Ben Berlinguette as the new Town of Valleyview CAO.  Ben brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise to the position and is looking forward to the challenges of improving our community, as well as working with our regional partners, MD of Greenview and Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, to make our region better for all residents.  We have attached a brief synopsis highlighting Ben’s life and accomplishments and invite you to stop in and visit him at the Town Office.  Welcome to Valleyview, Ben & Christina.

Ben Berlinguette was born and raised on a small farm near St. Paul, Alberta.  As a child, he was an enthusiastic builder, creating small scaled roads, canals, and retention ponds, as well as wooden bridges and tree forts.  It was the love to create that led him to attend NAIT’s Civil Engineering Technology Program, graduating in 1994.  Since then, Mr. Berlinguette has added to his professional development with Harvard Business’s Career Management, Alberta Municipal Affairs CAO, Project Management training, Incident Command Systems (ICS-400) and additional courses ranging from leadership, project & people management, coaching & mentoring, client & contractor relation, safety, communication, succession management, negotiations and conflict resolution.

Mr. Berlinguette combines hard work, knowledge, and determination which has opened career opportunities in both the private and public sectors for employers as diverse as the City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation, Akita Drilling, Kiewit, AMEC, TransAlta, MD of Foothills and Thorhild County.  Having held a variety of management positions, he built an expansive scope focusing on oil & gas, power sector, transportation and municipalities as well as projects within environmental (industrial site & gravel pit reclamations, wetlands), procurement (material, equipment), infrastructure (roads, buildings, bridges, parks), asset & project management initiatives and maintenance programs.

With his growing level of both technical and non-technical expertise, Mr. Berlinguette is a valuable volunteer contributor, serving on ASET’s PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition) Program as an Assessor in which he received the 2018 President’s Award for Volunteer of the Year, on the Towns of Morinville & Stony Plain Subdivision & Development Appeal Boards as a Member-at-Large, as a Board Member / Trustee with the Tri-Community Health & Wellness Foundation and, as a volunteer with the Stony Plain & Parkland County Pioneer Museum.

Married for over 20 years and the father of two daughters, Mr. Berlinguette likes to spend his time travelling, hunting & fishing, building, landscaping, sight-seeing, exploring and hiking.
