At its Organizational Meeting on November 3rd, Valleyview Town Council approved a rotational system for the position of Deputy Mayor. The change ensures that all six councillors will have the opportunity to serve in the role during the current Council term.
Under the system, each councillor will hold the title of Deputy Mayor for an eight-month term, following an alphabetical rotation schedule. This approach promotes fairness, shared leadership, and equal exposure to the responsibilities that come with the position.
Council also appointed Councillor Kerri Danner as the first Deputy Mayor under the system. Councillor Danner will serve the initial eight-month term before the position rotates to the next councillor in line.
The Deputy Mayor acts on behalf of the Mayor during absences and assists in representing the Town at official events and meetings. By introducing a structured rotation, Council aims to strengthen governance continuity and enhance each member’s experience with municipal leadership duties.
Mayor Burke said the change reflects Council’s commitment to teamwork and good governance. “This system gives every councillor the chance to take on a leadership role and gain firsthand experience with the responsibilities of the Mayor’s office,” the Mayor said.
