The program will encourage hiring by providing grants to employers for creating net new employment on or after January 1, 2016. Grants will be worth up to $5,000 for each new job, with a cap of 100 new full-time jobs.
Grants will be calculated using the same insurable earnings data that employers must submit to the federal government.
Grants will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible employers including:
- small and medium enterprises
- registered charities
- other non-profit entities
Government entities such as hospitals, schools and other levels of government will not be eligible.
This plan will be the most extensive program of its kind in Canada. It will support organizations of all sizes and employment across all non-public sectors.
