What is the cost of the program?
The government is investing a total of $178 million over the course of two calendar years. The Job Creation Incentive Program will support employers in creating up to 27,000 new jobs a year. The actual number will vary depending on the types of positions and wage levels. For example, if most applications are at the high end of the grant cap, that number would likely be closer to 18,000 new jobs.
How is net new employment calculated?
Grants will be calculated using insurable earnings data that employers must submit to the federal government. Net new employment is determined from employment in 2016 over 2015 to determine the employer’s grant eligibility for 2016.
When will the program start?
The program will launch in spring 2016.
Further details on the program, application requirements and procedures will be made available at a later date.
