Valleyview Town Council has officially adopted a new Strategic Plan to guide municipal priorities, planning, and decision-making over the coming years. The plan provides a clear roadmap to maintain reliable services, strengthen the local economy, and ensure long-term financial stability while preserving the quality of life residents value.
The Strategic Plan reflects Council’s commitment to thoughtful, responsible leadership in a changing environment. As a small town serving approximately 2,000 residents and acting as a regional hub, Valleyview faces both challenges and opportunities. This plan ensures the Town remains prepared, resilient, and well-positioned for the future.
A Clear Vision for Valleyview’s Future
The Strategic Plan is guided by a shared vision:
Valleyview: a welcoming community of opportunity and quality of life.
This vision reflects Valleyview’s identity as a friendly, inclusive town where residents, families, and businesses can thrive. It reinforces Council’s commitment to maintaining safe, reliable infrastructure and services while supporting sustainable growth.
Three Key Priorities
The Strategic Plan focuses on three core priorities that will shape Council and Administration’s work:
1. Community Readiness and Service Reliability
Council is committed to maintaining and improving essential infrastructure, including roads, water, and wastewater systems. The Town will also support planned housing projects, maintain reliable municipal services such as fire protection and waste management, and ensure Valleyview is ready to respond to future growth opportunities.
2. Economic Revitalization and Local Opportunity
The Town will develop and implement an Economic Development Plan focused on revitalizing the downtown, supporting local businesses, and attracting appropriate investment and employment opportunities. This includes working with regional partners and promoting initiatives that strengthen Valleyview’s role as a regional service centre.
3. Financial Stability and Public Confidence
Maintaining financial stability is essential to protecting Valleyview’s future. The Town will focus on responsible asset management, building and maintaining reserves, maximizing grant opportunities, and ensuring transparent decision-making so residents understand how and why decisions are made.
Supporting Responsible Planning and Accountability
The Strategic Plan provides clear direction for Council and Administration, helping guide budgets, infrastructure investments, and service delivery decisions. It also serves as an accountability tool, allowing residents to see the Town’s priorities and track progress over time.
Mayor Glenn Burke emphasized the importance of the plan in guiding Valleyview forward:
