Valleyview Airport
Originally constructed in the mid-1970s, the Valleyview Airport is a vital asset to the residents of the Town of Valleyview, the MD of Greenview, and Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.
The aerodrome performs a key function in the community by facilitating air traffic for general, recreational, corporate and commercial aviation as well as flight training. Most importantly, given the extended transfer times from the local hospital to larger medical facilities by ground ambulance, the airport is crucial for critical medevac services.
While the facility has received routine upgrades through the decades, a full-scale rehabilitation of the runway and taxiway took place in summer of 2023, providing increased safety tolerances for pilots, passengers, medevac personnel and their patients, and aircraft.
While there are no fees levied on aircraft to land at the airport, we request all pilots register their visit on the Landing Log located in the terminal to assist our municipality in determining the nature of aviation activity, gauging local and regional demand, and gathering other metrics helpful in management planning.
Rehabilitation Project 2023
When we asked, you listened…
The Town of Valleyview wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the organizations and individuals who pledged generous donations toward the Valleyview Airport Rehabilitation Project. When you answered our call for help, you didn’t just invest in the airport… you invested in your community. And for that, we are grateful.

Hangars
There are several hangars located within a secure area at the Valleyview Airport, all with immediate access to the taxiway, in close proximity to the terminal building, and with convenient and direct access to Highway 43.
The Town of Valleyview and the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16 each own one hangar at the Valleyview Airport, both of which are occupied through annual rental. There is currently a documented waitlist for these units.
The facility is also home to four privately-owned hangars and ten privately-owned aircraft.

Airport Functions
The Town and surrounding communities recognize the critical role of search and rescue personnel within our community. In spring 2022 we were pleased to accommodate Greenview Search and Rescue and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as they coordinated and practiced achieving SAR exercise objectives at the Valleyview Airport.
The Valleyview Airport serves as a staging area for Alberta Wildfire operations, allowing crews to monitor the region for potential wildfire threats. The aerodrome plays a crucial role in safeguarding our forests and surrounding communities, and we’re pleased to support these critical wildfire monitoring operations.
