The Town of Valleyview continues to address changes in the appearance of our drinking water. Some residents may have noticed that their tap water looks cloudy, or may have a different taste or odor than usual. We want to reassure everyone that drinking water remains safe and meets all provincial health and regulatory standards.
Why This is Happening
Testing has shown that higher-than-normal sediment levels in the treated water reservoirs has been affecting clarity. This sediment can cause water to appear cloud or discoloured, and can also contribute to taste and odor changes. While these issues are aesthetic, they do not affect the safety of the water.
What We’re Doing
Our certified Utilities team is actively working to correct the problem and restore normal water appearance.
Current and upcoming actions include:
- Pre-chlorination has been added to the treatment process to help reduce taste and odor concerns while improving water quality.
- Cleaning the outside treated water reservoir—this work is being completed today.
- Beginning cleaning of the Water Treatment Plant clear well in the near future to improve water clarity and system performance.
- Adjusting treatment processes and increasing sampling/monitoring throughout the distribution system to ensure water continues to meet standards at all times.
What Residents Can Do
- If you notice cloudy or odourous water, run your cold water tap for a few minutes—this usually clears the line
- Ensure any in-home filtration devices (such as carbon filters or reverse osmosis units) are cleaned and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions
- If you experience ongoing issues beyond temporary changes, please contact our department so we can investigate further.
Our Commitment
The Town recognizes that changes to water appearance are frustrating, and we are working quickly as possible to complete the necessary cleaning and treatment adjustments. These improvements are important to ensure the long-term reliability of Valleyview’s water system.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while this work is carried out. Updates will continue to be posted as progress is made.
