Landfills are regulated by the Department of Environmental Protection under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA). Landfills in Alberta are sorted into three categories of approval. Each classification requires different levels of environmental protection systems depending on the type of waste materials they accept.
The Town of Valleyview Landfill is a Class III Approved Landfill and as of May 31, 2022, will only accept the following materials:
Accepted waste for a Class III Landfill:
- Clean wood (non-treated), in burn pile
- Automotive Hulks
- Tires
- Scrap Metal
- Concrete
Prohibited:
- Treated wood
- Furniture
- Decomposable waste
- Hazardous waste
Outside of regular garbage pickup, there are transfer bins for household garbage at the Town of Valleyview Recycle Centre and Transfer Station located at 4205 40th Avenue.
